DAY 7

DAY 7: JACOB’S LADDER

I am with you. I will watch over you everywhere you go. And I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.
-Genesis 28:15

REFLECT
Isaac grew up and had a son named Jacob. When Jacob became a man, he set out on a long journey to find a wife. It was a tiring trip, so one night he found a smooth rock to rest his head on and fell asleep.
As he slept, Jacob had a dream from God. In his dream, he saw a ladder reaching from earth up to heaven. Angels were going up and down the ladder, and at the top stood God Himself.
God said, “I will give you and your children this land to live in. Just as I promised your father, Isaac, and your grandfather, Abraham, I will give you many descendants—so many that they will be like the dust of the earth, too many to count. I am still unfolding My wonderful rescue plan to save My people from sin. The Savior will come from your family line. I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will always keep My promises.”
When Jacob woke up, he knew he would never be alone again. He built an altar there and worshiped God for speaking to him.
Jesus, God’s Son, is the only way we can be close to God. He is like our ladder to heaven, bridging the gap between us and God. Through Him, we are made right, forgiven, and holy. And He gives us the Holy Spirit to help us live like Him while we are on earth.
Jacob trusted God and knew He would always be by his side. And just like Jacob, we can trust that God is always with us too!

DISCUSSION
How does it feel to know that God is always with you?
What does it mean to you that God always keeps his promises?

PRAY
Thank you God for always being with us, wherever we go. Thank you for sending Jesus to be our ladder to heaven so we can be with you forever. Amen.

FAMILY ACTIVITY
Make a ladder out of popsicle sticks glued to paper. Have your children color themselves at the bottom of the ladder with God at the top. Then draw a big cross on top of the ladder, and show your children that Jesus is the way to heaven!
